About us

Tamsin Scott

Tamsin, who started the Centre, is a gifted mathematician who teaches the whole range of ages from 5 to 16 and even beyond, for A Level Maths. She has a degree in Chemical Engineering but decided industry wasn’t for her, so trained as a teacher in an independent school in Kent. Born in Tunbridge Wells she is a local girl at heart, and when she has spare time loves nothing better than walking in the Ashdown Forest.

The Other Teachers

All the teachers in our Centre are fully qualified and experienced in teaching in schools and are fully referenced and police checked. Each teacher has been selected for their sensitive and empathetic attitude towards children, and for their love of teaching. They receive specialised Kip McGrath training before they begin their teaching in the Centre. Our teachers may be teaching part-time in school, or more likely have taken a break to bring up their own children or even taken early retirement.

Our teachers can offer specialised help in all SEN areas, as well as help with basic reading and writing for children who have simply fallen behind. We also have specialists for Maths and English to GCSE, across the whole range of ages and abilities.

Christine Holmes

Christine is an experienced primary school teacher who specialises in the 8 – 11 age range. She is particularly gifted at bringing out the best in quiet children, and has a wry sense of humour which appeals to children. She volunteers for the National Trust, doing outdoor teaching on the South Downs, and is deeply committed to the Sussex Bonfire celebrations each year, appearing in her wonderful costumes in all the local villages bonfires.

Karen Seal

Karen is a primary teacher who has a particular interest in helping children with any kind of learning difficulty. She focusses on the 5-7 age range, and her calm, nurturing manner is comforting for even the most sensitive child. She is involved in local amateur dramatics and operatics and can be seen appearing in productions throughout the year.

Laura Serpis

Laura is a primary teacher who specialises in Reception and age 5-6. Her happy personality infects the most nervous children with smiles, and soon has them doing their very best and making progress. Laura is a gifted singer and performs in many local and national choirs and as a soloist – she has even recorded a CD.

Lucy Thorn

Lucy is an experienced primary school teacher specialising in the 7 – 11 age range. She has a very calm, sensitive manner with the children, and is quick to learn exactly what the needs of each child are. Lucy is one of our most popular teachers but as she is raising her own three we are fortunate to have her on Saturdays for two sessions.

Phil Hart

Phil is a primary teacher who specialises in the 8 – 11 age range. Always full of energy, Phil brings his infectious enthusiasm for learning to the children and is able to inspire even the most reluctant learner. Phil was previously an engineer in the forces until he made a radical career change and has never looked back.

Tamsin Mason

Tamsin is our specialist 11+ teacher focusing on offering tuition tailored to help children do their best in the selection process. She is also a gifted Maths teacher and has been with us almost since we opened. Tamsin cares deeply about all the children she teaches and forges strong supportive relationships with them during their hard slog up to the exams.

Diane Antone

Diane is the Centre administrator and keeps the wheels turning smoothly. Also a trained and experienced teacher of Science, she has a degree in psychology and a deep interest in child development. She is always available to answer any questions you have about any aspect of the Centre as it affects you and your children.
